Like most of us, your life has probably helped you discover that change is hard.

So hard that it sometimes seems impossible—even when it's sorely needed—even when it's desired and willingly embraced.

Research confirms these gut instincts. Studies at the Harvard Business School indicate that 70% of organizational change initiatives ultimately fail. And author Alan Deutschman in his book Change or Die reveals a little known, yet revealing secret: In the face of life-or-death cardiac illness, most adults are not likely to make or maintain the fundamental changes in diet, lifestyle, and stress levels that they need to regain health.

Even in the face of death, the odds against people changing are 9 to 1.

At Gateways Learning, we understand just how hard change can be—especially for the human beings who will be part of the process and who will be affected by what is happening along the way, We also know that change is possible, and it can be transformative for people and their organizations.

When even one individual changes in a strong and sustainable way, everyone and everything in proximity changes, as well. When change takes place in a larger organizational context and many individuals actively join in the process, the energy that is unleashed and focused in new directions can change the soul and spirit of the whole enterprise...and impact the bottom line as well.

The question is: “How do we engage in change that sticks?”
